Residents of the Florida Keys have had the great fortune to receive plastic surgery and dermatological services from a surgeon who takes great care and pride in his work. Patients are impressed by his surgical ability and compassion, which has resulted in many repeat patients and positive word-of-mouth.
It is no surprise that the community has a strong fondness for Dr. Verghese. His philanthropic nature is evidenced by the numerous times he has stepped up to the plate to treat patients who could not afford the services of an experienced and talented surgeon, whether it required repairing a complicated wound or treating a deadly skin cancer at no charge.
After graduating valedictorian from his
Wadsworth, Ohio high school, John went through a combined undergraduate and
medical program at the University of Akron and North East Ohio Medical College (NEOMED), emerging six years later at the age
of 22 with his MD degree. From there he
went on to a 5-year residency in general surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, followed
by a 2-year fellowship in plastic surgery at St. Louis University. Dr. John Verghese held the honorable position
as chief of plastic surgery at the St. Louis VA hospital, while he was on the
faculty of St. Louis University. He
also served as Chief of Surgery at Fishermen’s Community Hospital for 4 years.
